History

FGP or ‘Fine-grind Products’ was established in 1970 as a subcontract precision grinding company with a strong reputation for small ground components working to very high tolerances. In 1983, Fine Grind Products change hands. The new management continued to build on the sound foundation set by their predecessor, concentrating on quality, price and delivery.

Whilst slowly expanding through the 80s, FGP expanded into supply turned and milled parts. By 1987, the company had relocated to a purpose built factory of 2500 square feet and was offering a full and comprehensive manufacturing facility. Further expansion followed in 1996 when FGP acquired P.B.S. Precision Engineering Ltd, resulting in a further expansion to its premises, which now offered 8500 square feet of machining area and 2500 square feet of administration, assembly and inspection area. The workforce had also increased during that period from 8 highly skilled operatives to 60.

In June 2001 FGP purchased the site adjoining its factories of approximately one acre with plans passed for further expansion.

FGP Systems Ltd is now, without doubt, a benchmark business. It employs an excellent team of highly skilled men and women and the Company is held in very high regard by all its customers. This is the solid foundation on which FGP Systems Ltd plans future expansion and development. FGP Systems Ltd is proud to be able to offer product test capability in support of environmental control systems and the latest in Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM) covering both metallic and non metallic in partnership with its customers.

In 2015, the business was acquired by Cyrus Investment Management LLP.

David Hitchcock, Managing Partner of CIM, comments ”FGP is the third investment CIM has made in Tier one UK precision engineering companies in line with our strategy of building value in this world class industry.  By injecting new capital, management and products we aim to increase profitability within each investee company in the portfolio and exit the aggregated businesses to a single trade or institutional buyer after three year obligatory holding period”.
